How Happy Happens
Behind-the-Scenes of Working for Disney Experiences
It takes incredible talent, strong collaboration, and a deep passion for what we do to bring Disney-level stories to life that connect with guests around the world and keep them coming back time and again.
Who Works at Disney Experiences?
When working at Disney Experiences, you’ll see employees referred to in a few different ways, such as cast members, crew members, and Imagineers.
The unique naming conventions at Disney all started with Walt Disney’s vision and his use of theatrical terms to describe the unique environments at Disney theme parks where stories came to life. He referred to the areas where guests would be as “onstage,” while operations support were “backstage,” and all employees — no matter where they worked — played a role in the show… and that’s why they’re called cast members.
Learn more about each term.
A Disney Cast Member is any employee contributing to the Disney experience — when that’s at a Disney park, store, restaurant, resort hotel or other Disney destination — with the collective goal of delivering happiness and memorable moments for guests from around the world.
A Disney Crew Member is an employee that lives and works onboard a Disney cruise ship in a variety of positions that help create magic at sea for guests. These positions include engineers, performers, navigational officers, dining room servers, stateroom attendants, and many more that support the overall operation of the ship and the guest experience.
Disney’s Imagineers are the employees that make up Walt Disney Imagineering — the artists, writers, architects, engineers, scientists and other areas of expertise that work together to bring to life Disney theme parks, resort hotels, attractions, theme park live entertainment shows and spectaculars, cruise ships, and real estate developments worldwide.
Yes, Disney has a proud history of hiring and supporting military veterans. Disney’s respect and appreciation for the U.S. Armed Services began with founders Walt and Roy O. Disney, who served during and after World War I. Roy served in the U.S. Navy while Walt served with the Red Cross Ambulance Corps. We recognize the commitment and dedication it takes to serve our country, both as a military personnel and military spouses, and value the leadership skills and sense of purpose it has instilled in you. Through our “Heroes Work Here” initiative, we encourage U.S. Military veterans to explore open opportunities and discover where a career with Disney can take them.
Granting a Wish Every Hour of Every Day
Disney is honored to be the world’s largest wish granter for Make-A-Wish, with more than 150,000 wishes granted over the past 40 years. Those numbers come alive in moments created to wrap families in joy when they need it most. Cast members work in harmony to craft every detail of the experience and serve as wish-granting volunteers.
For all who help make each wish happen, the experience isn’t just part of their job; it’s one of the most rewarding and meaningful moments of their lives.
Eligibility for benefits, perquisites and other programs vary by offering.
