On August 27, the Disneyland Resort Security and Emergency Services team gathered to commend extraordinary cast members whose dedication, heroism and commitment to others helped guests, fellow cast members and the resort in moments it mattered most.
Disneyland Resort President Jill Estorino along with Vice President of Disneyland Resort Security, Dan Hughes, recognized recipients of the Disney Heroes Award and Excellence Awards which honors cast members, crew or employees who perform extraordinary, life-saving acts on or off the clock in service of others.
Honoring Extraordinary Acts of Service
Behind each award was a story of cast members stepping up to help others during unexpected moments.
Disney Heroes Award Nominee Ofelia Perez recognized by Disneyland Resort President Jill Estorino.
Security & Emergency Services Communication Specialist Joey Duong nominated Security Lead Brandon Robertson, Security Officer Robert Fuentes and Dispatcher Ofelia Perez after witnessing their response during a medical emergency involving an unconscious guest who required immediate attention. Working together, the team moved quickly to provide assistance and help coordinate care until additional medical support arrived. For their actions, all three were recognized with the Disney Heroes Award.
“Their quick response, teamwork and dedication to safety undoubtedly contributed to the positive outcome of this emergency,” shares Joey. “Their actions reflect the highest standards of Disney’s commitment to guest and cast member safety.”
Security Host David Chanthavongsa was also recognized with a Disney Heroes Award after using his life-saving training to assist a guest. Nominated by Security Operations Manager Ron West, David remained steady and focused throughout the incident. “I heard the radio traffic, and a nurse was on scene by the time I arrived,” Ron recalls. “David was calm and professional during the entire event.” David’s quick actions helped ensure the guest received necessary care until paramedics arrived.

Recognizing Excellence in Nursing Care
The Security & Emergency Services awards ceremony also celebrated 17 nurses and EMTs who received an Excellence Award for responding to life-saving emergencies across the resort with exceptional care and commitment during critical situations. While their work often happens behind the scenes, they play an essential role in supporting the health and safety of guests and cast members across the resort.
